Phase 2: Students First

Typically September

The school year is up and running.  September is a time to get to know your campus students, families, and staff well.  Principals lead their campuses in setting a Campus Improvement Plan with focused goals based on student baseline data and other information gathered.  As a new principal, it is also a time to establish yourself with your campus.  Be visible!  Get into the cafeteria, be present in the halls, and get into classrooms.

Schedule, Job Duties, and Expectations

  • Plan time on your calendar to get into classrooms and to be present with students and teachers.
  • Work with the Director of Performance Management in the Human Resources Department to identify what appraisal training you need.  If you are not yet T-TESS trained, it is time to get registered for this training.  We also will get you a T-PESS orientation.
  • Read the Employee Handbook.
  • Complete and direct your staff to complete the annualy required staff Compliance Training modules.  These will be sent out by the Professional Development Department and will be found in Eduphoria.
  • Learn more about the Round Rock ISD Personnel Policies.

To Do’s in September

  • If you haven’t already discussed the Principal Role Definition document with your Area Superintendent, spend some time looking over this aspirational model and think about goals you may have to work towards the best use of your time in your daily work as principal.
  • Things to do in September.
